Narrow spaces
Why are there fires in the mine?
They light fires and pour cold water on it to weaken the rock and make it easier to break.
Mining like this, there is a risk of hitting a pocket of noxious gas, which is in some cases flammable – it is dangerous work.
What about the oxygen supply?
This is an issue in all big mines, especially a deep vein mine life this which has a long shaft opening up to a gallery. There is a second vertical shaft to to allow air flow, but in this mine that opening is not wide because it isn’t used to transport anything in or out.
What are those wheels?
Digging down this deep is a flood risk. The miners get rid of excess water by lifting it up and depositing it into caverns in the wall.
Why are you so obsessed with mines?
Why wouldn’t I be?!
